Israel extends detention of Jerusalem Governor Adnan Gheith for 7 more days

The PA governor of Jerusalem Adnan Gheith got today extension of detention in Israeli custody for an additional seven days, according to his lawyer Rami Othman.

Israeli police officers raided his home in Silwan village and detained him on Sunday. He then was moved to Asqalan prison.

Gheith has been detained by Israel at least 17 times since he took office in August 2018.

Abdallah Siam, the deputy governor, said that Israel claimed there is "a secret file" against Gheith, but "in fact it has arrested him for political reasons."
